The Grainery

Stalingrad, October 31, 1942: While the Germans fought tooth and nail
for the Tractor Works and the Krasny Octyaber factory in the north,
the Romanians were pushing through the southern part of Stalingrad,
where the giant grain silos were. Soviet lines during this period
were stretched to the limit. Zhukov had ordered Chuikov and Brezhney
back across the Volga, and it was feared that the prize on the Don
might fall any day.

Game Length: 8 turns

For the Romanians to win they must capture large building on way to Graineries
For the Russians to win they must deny the buildings from the Romanians

Romanians: Squads, HMG, MMG, LMG's, FT, DC's, AFV's, OBA
Russians: Squads, MMG, LMG's, ATR, MOL-P, AFV

Boards: #20, #21

Aftermath: The Romanians rushed the grainery complex, intent on succeeding
where the Germans had failed. The Romanians held together with remarkable
coherency, and a Romanian general personally led a bayonet charge. Such a
determined attack sent the hard pressed Soviets reeling back toward the
Volga, only to beturn around by their Commisars. The Commisars (who were
in the act of withdrawing across the Volga under Stalin's orders), couldn't
stem the tide, however, and the grainery was taken. There was, by this time,
little grain to be had there, but what there was would certainly be needed
in the months to come.
